Last week we sent an email about our tentative reopening on June 1.  We have since learned that we need to submit a Covid-19 Preparedness Business Reopening Plan to the local government for their approval to reopen.

We are hard at work on this plan and the related forms.  Once we have their approval, we will announce our reopening.  We now believe that a June 1  reopening is unlikely.

As we await reopening, we ask your continued patience.

Please do not return materials via our drop box or leave materials at the gates.  Please continue to keep your checked out materials at home.   There will be no fines charged from the time of the shutdown on March 16 to the actual reopening date.

Please do not drop off any book donations.  Our volunteers are still safe at home and they are not working on site.

Please DO visit us at our digital branch:  digitalsjcl.org.  There you will find ebooks, audiobooks and the classics from the public domain.  We just acquired some new ebooks, among them Stephen King’s latest, If It Bleeds, Isabel Allende’s Largo Petalo de Mar, (we also have this title in English –A Long Petal of the Sea), Ann Pratchett’s The Dutch House, Louise Edrich’s Future Home of the Living God, Jeanine Cummin’s American Dirt and James McBride’s Deacon King Kong.

We are also working on a purchase order for children and young adult ebook titles…please feel free to send along your suggestions via our email address.

And, we have great news to report.  The San Juan chapter of the American Association of Women (AAUW) is donating more books to their “Stand Up Women!” Collection at our library.  The titles that they donated to us last year for young adults and children have all been very well received–each book had been checked out at least 2 to 3 times.  Those are wonderful numbers!  AAUW will now add titles for adult nonfiction to this popular and important collection.  If you would like to suggest book titles about women who have helped change history, please send your recommendation to us via our email address.

From our library family to yours….Happy Reading!!!
