November Update / New Art Class

There are 15 days to Thanksgiving and less than 50 to Christmas. “The days are long, but the years are short.” That’s a quotation from one of our neighbors. We agree, and that’s one of the reasons why we love reading…great books are great friends!

With that thought in mind, we will be open on Thursday, November 11. Our gratitude to all our veterans who served our country. Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, and was celebrated on November 11, the day when the Armistice to end World War I was signed. In the 1950’s the day became Veterans Day, and on this special day may we all give our respect to our veterans, for they have served us all with the their courage and generous spirits.

Our library will be closed for Thanksgiving recess starting Monday, November 22 – November 27. We will reopen on Monday, November 29 under our regular hours. We will be working during this week on a special project with our bookcases.

And, to ring in the New Year, we are starting a new art class. See the flyer from artist Susana Avagnina.

Susana has taught both drawing and oil painting in several places in the San Juan area. She recently exhibited her work at the GalerĂa Gruppo Italia. Starting January 11, she will be teaching at our library on Tuesdays from 11 am – 1 pm. $20/per class. For questions and to register, space is limited, please call Susana at 787-453-9530.

End of Year Fundraising Campaign/ Join our Bright Future: Stay tuned for our upcoming email about raising funds for our operations in 2022. We need everyone’s help to achieve our fundraising goal of $70,000. With your support we can make it! We have many donors from the past who have ensured our future. Memberships help greatly with operating expenses, but they do not cover our operating budget of $121,000. So, please think of us as you plan for the upcoming months. Your library needs you. If you are ready to make a donation now, here is the link to our site on the PayPal Giving Fund.

The PayPal Giving Fund is an easy way to make a donation with no fees and which you may use as a charitable deduction. You will also receive a receipt for your contribution. We are exempt from taxes for the local treasury and for federal reporting purposes we are a 501(c)(3). Please consider sharing our email with a friend. The more who know about our library and services, the more people we can serve.

Happy reading from our library family to yours! Happy Thanksgiving and thanks to our brave veterans! Hope to see everyone at our circulation desk and in our new art class.
