Update and Spring Break

Thanks to One and All:

It is always the right moment to check out a title for the themes of the month. As we look around our collection of over 32,000 lending titles, we are grateful to our generous donors. They have made possible our special collections, including our Arab American Collection, our books from the authors at Picture Book Summit, the Elie Freiband young adult collection, and the titles from the American Association of University Women, Puerto Rico chapter, among others.

And, our collection has also been shaped by you! Thanks to your generosity over the past 35 years, we have an outstanding lending collection of over 32,000 titles. And we are thankful because we continue to be very busy checking books in and out, and renewing books as well.

We are also pleased to see the number of titles borrowed from our digital branch. Having a diverse collection of ebooks and audiobooks is very important to us, and we will soon be adding another group of titles to our electronic titles. Thank you all for your support!

Open House, Saturday, April 23

Join us Saturday, April 23 at our annual Open House in celebration of National Library Week. We are excited to host two workshops with children’s books authors from the publishing house Editorial RaĆces. Sandra Rivera (11am) will read her new book Los caballitos de mar se mudan de coral and Mayra Leticia Ortiz Padua (1 pm) will read her new book Luna musical. Both books deal with important topics; the first is about the importance of recycling and the second is a reminder of how music makes each day special. Authors will have a book signing and related craft time.

During the open house, from 10:30 am to 3:00 pm we will also offer a book and bake sale to go. All sales books will be half off their regular prices. And, in tribute to our 35th anniversary, we will issue “Blast from the Past” memberships” at $2 each–good for new memberships and renewals all that day!!!

Spring Recess: We will be closed Monday, April 11 – Saturday, April 16. Stop by and stock up on your reading for that week!

Story and craft time: Our next story and craft time is Wednesday, April 20th. Stop by between the hours of 11 am and 3 pm. We are “leaping” into spring with the book Froggy Builds a Tree House. We will read in both English and Spanish. Children ages 3- 8 will then make a fun, froggy friend that floats in water!
