Library update
We welcome our patrons to celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with a great read. Stop by to visit our suggested selections in tribute of this important theme.
Thanks to everyone for joining us at our story and craft time this past Thursday. We had a full house! We are so glad our members and families came out to support this new activity.
Our next storytime with our storyteller Nailah will be on Thursday, October 26 at 11 am.
We are also featuring a storytime on Saturday, October 28 during our event “Day of the Character.” Author Lizette Martínez will read her book Puerto Rico en el corazón that day.
Here is the line up of activities on this special day:
October 28, Saturday, from 10:30 am – 1:30 pm “Day of the Character” (Día del Personaje). Come dressed in a costume to celebrate a favorite character of yours.
11 am: Storytime and craft with author Lizette Martínez. Lizette will also do face paintings for those characters who wish to add to their costumes!
10:30 am – 3:00 pm: All sales books $5 a bag (yours or ours–no bigger than one of the traditional food store size bags)
Blast from the Past Memberships (10 new memberships at the original price of $2 the year! First come/first serve).
Visit from the Centro para el Libro de Humanidades Puerto Rico: 12 pm Complimentary Pizza lunch. During our special day we are welcoming a visit from the new Centro para el Libro de Humanidades Puerto Rico (Puerto Rico Humanities Center for the Book). They will be here to talk about their new initiative and to share a survey with us about library usage. They have generously offered to donate the pizza for our lunch!
We have received several inquiries from library members if they may donate a dessert for that day. We welcome your baked goods! And, if the baked item is from a student, we will give two hours of community service for the donation (eg cupcakes, cookies, etc.).
12:30 pm – 1:00 pm. New activity “los viejos dicen.” This activity is intended to be a fun time for one and all. Our older population want to share their hard earned wisdom. They will offer free advice for your “burning” questions (no religion/no politics). Let’s hear what “los viejos dicen!”
12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Custom Poems: In the tradition of writing poetry as a means of sharing and caring, one of our resident poets will write a poem customized just for you! After a few quick questions, our poet will create your poem on a typewriter rather than a modern day computer keyboard. Fun for one and all! $1 suggested donation.
Annual Community Meeting: Join us on Saturday, November 4 at 2 pm for our annual community meeting. The meeting will be on Zoom. Let us know if you are able to attend, and we will send the link to you. A summary of our annual report for 2022 will be available. Copies will be available at the Library, as well.
